Throughout the year, the ArtWorks community meets a Young Artist from one of our programs who has used the creative and performing arts to help them cope with their illness.
Title: Gold and Silver Hair Decorations
“I like to wear my hair in many different styles. The style I especially favor is having my hair braided with bright colored beads. However, for my drawing I thought that gold and silver beading would be even more special and beautiful than colored beads.”
Crystal loves to be on the move! Especially when she hears her favorite music. That’s why she creates her art quickly and without question. She shares, “I like to see the finished product almost immediately.” She uses colorful markers to create her abstract designs. Colored tissue, photographs, and colored paper make their way on to her collages as well. She is also interested in drawing faces because she can identify with her subjects, like the portrait “Gold and Silver Hair Decorations” featured below. When it comes to her family, Crystal says she is lucky. “My mother, the one I loved who loved me very much, passed away. My mother left me with a beautiful sister who is the same as my father – terrific, sensitive, and caring!” Crystal participated in Express Yourself-NY in 2014.
Title: Joy and Happiness
“I love to color. The colors in this picture express how I feel and show that I am a happy, outgoing person with a lot of boundless energy.”
