Express Yourself is an annual creative and performing arts exhibition inviting our Young Artists facing illness to take part in a program of awe-inspiring performances and a gallery exhibition. On October 7th, we were honored to celebrate the talent and spirit of all our Young Artists alongside over 150 guests at the NYU Kimmel Center. 100 artworks were exhibited in our gallery and the performance showcase featured 15 performances each with distinct meaning and emotion. Thank you to Joseph for donating his piece “Colors of St. Joseph’s” to our #ArtWorksAuction in honor of his sister who is being treated at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital. We can’t wait to see his artwork displayed at our Cocktail Benefit this Thursday, October 25th at the Museum of the City of New York! 

Today, our #ArtWorksAuction features a group project, “Busy Street” by Young Artists at Hospital for Special Surgery! The Young Artists said of this piece, “We all travel different paths rushing back and forth to places but often we meet at the hospital to take care of our health. As our paths cross, we can’t help but to light up the room with our bright personalities. We help turn the hospital waiting room to one very “Busy Street”. #ArtWorksKids

We are proud to collaborate with K-Deer Leggings on their “Colleen Stripe” leggings. The Colleen Stripe is named after K-DEER founder’s niece, Colleen. For each sale of the Colleen Stripe, a percentage of proceeds goes directly to support ArtWorks. We will also be featuring a gift card to K-Deer Leggings in our #ArtWorksAuction. Wildflower is an archival digital pigment print by Boy Kong, 2018, signed and numbered by the artist and printed by Brooklyn Editions. Today’s #ArtWorksAuction features two VIP tickets to a performance of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater during its 60th Anniversary! Founded in 1958, Alvin Ailey annually reaches over 300,000 audience members across the globe. Since its inception, the company has performed in 71 countries on 6 continents for an estimated 23 million people worldwide. Thank you to Alvin Ailey for supporting our Silent Auction for the last three years, we are so appreciative! #ArtWorksKids

Our Cocktail Benefit on Thursday, October 25th will showcase Young Artist artwork, Teaching Artist and donated artwork,  performance tickets and a variety of sports and luxury items in our #ArtWorksAuction! Today, we are featuring “Pickles” by Young Artist, Elena, age 18 from Children’s Specialized Hospital, who said that she chose to use brightly colored paints in this piece because they make her happy! #ArtWorksKids

Our final Express Yourself 2018 #FrameOfMind post highlights two framers, Andrea’s Frame It Yourself and The Framed Image in Pompton Plains. Without all of our wonderful framers, we would be unable to showcase all the beautiful masterpieces at our Express Yourself events. Thank you to everyone who attended Express Yourself 2018 this past Sunday and made it a roaring success! Over 100 artworks were exhibited in our gallery and the performance showcase featured 15 performances each with distinct meaning and emotion. It was an honor to celebrate the amazing talent and spirit of all the Young Artists and over 150 guests! ArtWorks is humbled and grateful for the support of our sponsors and especially our framers who donated their resources and time to turn each artwork into a masterpiece and keepsake for our Young Artists. We truly could not do this without them. We would also like to thank all of the fantastic volunteers who spent their day making sure our event ran smoothly and our Teaching Artists who hosted our wonderful workshops!
