From our Teaching Artist workshops and general celebrations of our Young Artists and our programming, there is never a dull moment with ArtWorks!
During the month of September, we proudly join a global effort to raise awareness around Pediatric Cancer. Every day, there are almost 700 new cases of childhood cancer around the world. This month serves as a call to action to support more research that will lead to safer treatments and a cure. We are so thankful to our community of hospital partners, families, caregivers, teaching artists and supporters who further our mission to help children heal through the power of art, music and expression. Together we can make a difference in the lives of children facing illness. #PediatricCancerAwarenessMonth #LetArtHeal

Thank you to Children of Bellevue for supporting our Teaching Artist Program with Reese Carr at NYC Health +Hospitals/Bellevue. In late August, Reese began his percussion and rhythm program where he will engage in circle activities with young patients and their family members as well as hospital staff and volunteers at Bellevue.
Meet our new Teaching Artist, Lindsey Francis, a ceramic artist and painter who has taught more than 400+ visual art classes over the past 6 years. She uses drawing as an outlet for herself and is excited to show Young Artists how they can do the same. Pictured here is Lindsey on her first day at Blythedale Children’s Hospital with Child Life Specialist, Jeannine Florio.
Since 2016, ArtWorks has had the privilege of joining Ronald McDonald House New York at their annual gathering at Rye Playland. This year we were joined by the wonderful volunteers at Goldman Sachs and new ArtWorks Teaching Artist, Lindsey Francis. Lindsey worked with Young Artists to create ceramic coil bowls which were then painted with a wide variety of colors and stamps. Thanks everyone for making great memories together! #CommunityTeamWorks
EXPRESS YOURSELF SUBMISSION DEADLINE IS THIS FRI 9/13.
Luis from New Alternatives For Children has come ready to bring the house down at Express Yourself since his debut in 2014. He horse-danced his way through Psy’s “Gangnam Style” in 2016 and energized the crowd with his Latin-inspired dancing to “Follow The Leader” by the Soca Boys in 2018. We are counting down the days until Luis gives us a sneak peak of his 2019 dance routine. Any guesses?
Carrie from the Initiative for Women with Disabilities has been performing at Express Yourself since 2013. Most years she has chosen to recite a poem detailing real-life, every day experiences that leave the audience profoundly moved. This year we are excited to see her highly anticipated essay as an art piece in our gallery. Don’t forget, the EY Submission deadline is Friday, Sept. 13!
#TBT! Travel with us back to 2006 as we revisit the time when CNN’s Headline News covered ArtWorks and took a deep dive into one of our three notable programs- Express Yourself! One of our Young Artists, George from St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital is featured here as he shares his love for the arts throughout his medical journey.
