Throughout the year, the ArtWorks community meets a Young Artist from one of our programs who has used the creative and performing arts to help them cope with their illness.
ArtWorks LOVES it when a new month rolls around, because we get to share another ARTIST OF THE MONTH with all our supporters! This month, we are proud to present ZACHARY as April’s Artist of the Month!
Zachary is 14 years old and first learned about ArtWorks through his Music Therapist at Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine at NYU Langone Medical Center. He says of music, “I love the way music makes me feel. I like that I can make up my own music—my own melody, lyrics—it’s really cool! I also like seeing the faces in the audience and their reactions when I play for them… I like to play music with others! I love Sabrina Carpenter and playing the drums with her music. My Grandma Bobby also inspires me to keep playing!”
His passion for music doesn’t stop there! Zachary has helped plan a concert for the other children at Rusk, and has enjoyed sharing his love for music with all those around him. He tells ArtWorks, “I used to be bullied when I was younger. It was really hard but I learned to rise above it. No one should ever experience that! We are all people, we should all be treated equally. Everyone has a talent. Don’t be scared to share it with other people, and don’t worry, there are people who support you! You are a special person and you should feel special no matter what happens!”
