Throughout the year, the ArtWorks community meets a Young Artist from one of our programs who has used the creative and performing arts to help them cope with their illness.
Every month is an exciting chance for ArtWorks to feature one of the many talented and amazing Young Artists who are a part of the ArtWorks family. This month, we are over-the-roof excited to introduce OSCAR as February’s Artist of the Month!
Oscar, 22-years-old, joined ArtWorks in 2013 through the Express Yourself Showcase program as BOTH a visual artist and a musical performer. He says of his practice as an artist, “I am motivated to create artwork and music by a strong desire to express who I am and what I am feeling. Singing makes me feel excited and happy and that’s what I enjoy sharing with other people…I enjoy being a role model for others to express themselves through the arts. When I created my last piece of artwork, I discovered that it was helping me cope with feelings of anger in a safe way. This was the first time I used my creativity to deal with negativity and I felt that was an important message to share with the world. I want to encourage everyone, no matter their challenges, to be whatever they want to be. Don’t be afraid to express who you are!
