November 2017 ARTIST OF THE MONTH: Camryn
Age 16

ABOUT THE ARTIST

“My experience with ArtWorks has been that I have found a safe place to truly express myself and my journey as a cancer patient.”
-Camryn

November’s Young Artist Highlight features the very talented Camryn from Cohen Children’s Medical Center who at 16 years old uses the creative arts to cope with her cancer diagnosis and treatment. With the support of her friends, family and the love of the arts, she is on a fast road to recovery!

“My journey as a cancer patient really has taken a toll on me. It’s been hard to cope with the many changes that happened to my life, such as my hair loss. When doctors told me my hair was going to fall off, it made me sacred out of my mind. I hid in my house for almost three months because I was ashamed of my baldness, and ashamed that people would look at me in a certain way.  However, these struggles and obstacles have served as an inspiration for my creativity.

I hope to strike confidence and strength in others going through the same situation through my illustrations!
-Camryn

This piece shows my journey as a cancer patient, my journey toward self love and my road to recovery. Let’s beat this thing together!”

This piece represents me breaking out of that former idea I had in my head and replacing it with a new one: Bald is Beautiful.  This goes out to all the girls and women out there who have dealt with the same challenges.
