Throughout the year, the ArtWorks community meets a Young Artist from one of our programs who has used the creative and performing arts to help them cope with their illness.

“I feel happy when I paint. When I make a mistake I just turn it into something else!” — Cherish
ArtWorks is pleased to introduce, Cherish, the August 2018 #YoungArtistHighlight. Cherish is 8 years-old and a patient at the Phyllis and David Komansky Children’s Hospital New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. She loves to use creativity as a way to take her mind off of her illness. She especially enjoys painting and drawing because she gets to use many different art supplies featured in the ArtWorks Art Cart.
Cherish’s inspirations for this piece comes from her love of nature and animals.
Cherish’s Art Therapist, Jackie Tassiello, tells us, “Cherish always comes in and leaves the hospital with a big smile. Her love of animals, nature and her family often shines through in her art. It is a gift to spend time working with Cherish. I’m so glad the ArtWorks community gets to see her creations!”
“ArtWorks is wonderful. The art making takes her mind off being in the hospital and allows for creativity and fun while she’s here. It’s great. Thank you!” — Cherish’s Dad
