Throughout the year, the ArtWorks community meets a Young Artist from one of our programs who has used the creative and performing arts to help them cope with their illness.

June 2018 ARTIST OF THE MONTH: Jasmine
Age 22

ABOUT THE ARTIST

ArtWorks is pleased to feature Jasmine from the Initiative for Women with Disabilities (IWD) as this month’s #YoungArtistHighlight. Jasmine is using her passion for creative and performing arts to overcome the challenges she faces each day.

She wowed us last November at Express Yourself when she performed an inspiring rendition of “Machine Heart” by Kelsea Ballerini with her mom.

“I was a little nervous to perform and felt like I wasn’t really prepared, but once everybody complimented me I felt better about it. I had a really nice time that day and really enjoyed the other performances.”

Last month, Jasmine worked with ArtWorks Teaching Artist Deborah Dawson in a Laser Painting Workshop at IWD. Deborah’s program utilizes a laser light, which is attached to the artist’s head or hand, and allows them to guide her to create their own paintings. Young Artist’s use the light to choose and mix colors, as well as direct the paintbrush. Jasmine told us her painting was inspired by a jasmine flower.

“Never give up, keep dreaming, believing, and remember that you are ALL beautiful. The only person that can stop you is yourself.”

Thank you, Jasmine for sharing your positivity and creativity with ArtWorks and all our Young Artists!
