Throughout the year, the ArtWorks community meets a Young Artist from one of our programs who has used the creative and performing arts to help them cope with their illness.

January 2018 ARTIST OF THE MONTH: Ozziah
Age 16

ABOUT THE ARTIST

“In art, people learn how to draw, paint and have creative thoughts and talents. ArtWorks helps you bring that out in yourself!”
-Ozziah

Happy New Year! We are so pleased to feature Ozziah, age 16, from Rusk Rehabilitation at NYU Langone Health as January’s Young Artist Highlight!

“Colors are visible light which depends on wavelength. Colors also can be symbols which can be decoded. It depends on the person who sees each color and how they perceive themselves. One reason why colors are like rainbows in the sky is because they are like water.”

Ozziah was diagnosed with Encephalitis but has found solace in the creative arts with ArtWorks.

“This year was the first time that I have had my art displayed in an exhibit! I just want everyone to know that you can use art as an expression of who you are and you don’t have to be afraid to do so! Art should be shared with the world and can change people’s lives for the better!”

Ozziah’s mother, Malikka, says she is very happy that he is able to express himself through his artwork and that he always has a way to share what he can’t always say in words.

Thank you Ozziah for sharing your story with the
ArtWorks community, we know it will inspire many others!

“The reason I created, The Tree of Gems,  is because they give life and freshness. Trees and life are both precious for colors and designs.”
